History:
Brucey came into Senior Staffy Club from another rescue where he was found as a stray, so we do not have any history on him.
Current:
Brucey was in our Worcester kennels for a short while where he seemed quite relaxed and happy. He then went into foster so he could be neutered just before Christmas.
It took Brucey a little while to settle back into home life and in the first few days he showed a few stubborn/challenging behaviours. He has since settled and his foster mum says:
"He’s an all-round lovely boy, and becoming more loving as he settles. He is a typical Staffy in nature with a lovely cheeky/naughty streak that keeps me on my toes.
He loves his toys and zoomies, especially if he’s being chased round the house. He loves being chased and chasing you, he teases you with his toy, play bowing and growling/talking to you when you attempt to take it.
Brucey is a high energy boy and will need an active home that will give him plenty of exercise and mental stimulation.
He will need plenty of time and patience to settle and decompress in his new home. This will need to be done at Brucey’s pace, allowing him space and time to relax and build trust as he’s has had a lot of changes in a short space of time.
He hasn’t shown any reaction to passing traffic, or loud noises, and the fireworks over New Year didn’t bother him. The doorbell/knock at the door does however cause a reaction… he will jump up at the door, but will happily move into another room on command to enable the door to be opened safely.
He has been very friendly with visitors to the house and strangers, but does like to jump up if given the chance.
He hasn’t shown any guarding around his food, however he is generally left in peace to eat. Brucey can sometimes shadow you around the house, but is equally comfortable to take himself off to his den (crate) when he wants quiet time, so it will be important for him to have an area where he can have a safe/quiet space.
Brucey currently sleep on my/his Frosty's bed and he likes to sleep on/under the covers of the bed."
Walking:
Brucey is an active boy and will happily walk for as long as you want to go. He is strong on the lead initially, but settles and walks nicely after about 15 minutes.
He appears to be dog friendly and will pull towards them. This is an area that will need a little work on how to greet dogs, as he is your typical 'bull in a china shop' boy and can be very full on.
Brucey hasn’t been let off lead whilst in foster and his foster mum suspects that his recall would be non-existent if he saw another dog.
Travelling:
Brucey loves to travel in the car, as this normally means exciting adventures with foster mum!
Vets:
The vet came to kennels to see him, Brucey was a good as gold for his health check, blood tests and vaccinations.
Health:
He has had a full health check, including a blood test, and the vet was happy that they were all within normal ranges.
He was neutered on 16th December, all went to plan and he has healed nicely.
We have found that if Brucey has an injury or is in pain, he doesn’t like to be handled and will grumble if you insist on touching it.W e are hopeful this will settle once he has built a bond with this new family. He is fine any other time.
Ideal home:
• Brucey could possibly live with the right dog, after several introductions.
• Due to being very boisterous, stubborn and vocal, we feel Brucey would be better not living with children.
• Brucey needs an active home where his energy can be burned off and where he will get lots of mental stimulation..
• Brucey is house trained and can happily be left for several hours.
Standard information:
Brucey is microchipped, vaccinated and neutered.
He is currently in foster in Herefordshire, but he can be rehomed anywhere in the UK, pending a successful home visit. However, any adopter should be willing to travel to meet him at least twice where he is now.
There is a non refundable adoption donation of £120 for Brucey and all money donated goes directly to helping all the Senior Staffies in our care.
