History:
Chester came to us after a relationship breakdown.
Current:
Chester is a very friendly boy who loves meeting people. He will sit/lie down next to you for fuss and a tummy rub, and gives big super Staffy kisses!
He is currently very overweight, weighing in at 39.5 kg. He’s definitely a bigger Staffy in build, but could do with losing around 15 kg or so to be healthy.
He sometimes shows interest in toys, but this doesn’t last for long. This may change in a home and as his health improves. At the moment, his favourite thing is definitely having a fuss!
Despite his size, he can be a bit bouncy and daft when he gets excited or frustrated and can be a little bit mouthy at times, but this is easily redirected.
He can sit, give his paw and wait on cue.
Walking:
Chester gets very excited to be going for walks, but due to his weight he can’t walk very far. Even very short walks of a few minutes make him very tired. He will need to start with little and often when it comes to exercise.
He generally walks quite well on the lead, but as he gets fitter this could change - so he’ll need someone who can handle a bigger dog on walks.
Travelling:
Chester finds travelling very stressful. In an ideal world, we’d like a home relatively close to our Stoke kennels, but we will sedate him for a journey to the right home.
Any new home will need to work on making him feel more comfortable with car trips.
Vets:
Chester was a good boy at the vets and very well-behaved, but he did find the whole experience, along with travelling, very stressful and exhausting.
Due to his size and how loud he was panting, it was difficult for our vets to do a full examination, but this wasn’t anything to do with his behaviour.
As he’ll most likely need regular trips to the vets for weighing/ weight loss clinics, he’ll need someone to help him feel more comfortable with this.
Health:
Chester is classed as morbidly obese and needs to lose a lot of weight before it starts to impact his health. We have currently started him on a weight management diet and regular exercise, but he will need regular monitoring to ensure that he’s losing weight at an appropriate pace.
His blood tests came back with a few mild changes, but nothing to be concerned about.
Ideal home:
Chester needs a pet-free home so that he can relax and not become too excited or stressed. He does need to stay as calm as possible with the weight that he currently is.
He could live with older, calm children as, again, he does need to stay as calm as possible. He also can be a little bit mouthy when he does become excited or frustrated.
He needs a home with a secure garden so that he has somewhere to potter around whilst he builds up his fitness.
Chester needs a home where someone can cater to his needs and help him lose weight so that he can lead a full and active life. SSC will offer all the support we can (including financially, if needed) to any new home to ensure that Chester gets to a healthy weight.
Standard information:
Chester is microchipped and neutered, he will start his vaccinations shortly.
He is currently in kennels in Stoke-on-Trent, but he can be rehomed anywhere in the UK, pending a successful home visit. However, any adopter should be willing to travel to meet him at least twice where he is now.
There is a non refundable adoption donation of £120 for Chester and all money donated goes directly to helping all the Senior Staffies in our care.
We aim to acknowledge your application within 48 hours.
