History:
Junior came to us after he found himself at the pound. His previous owner was contacted, but refused to pay the fee and didn't want him back.
Current:
Junior found kennels very stressful as he loves being around people. He was moved to a foster home around a month ago and settled in brilliantly.
His foster mum says:
"Junior will sleep for at least 8 hours by the side of our bed on his padded bed. Some nights we don’t hear a peep from him - other nights he might stretch, have a little wander and then settle back down until morning. In the morning you can expect paws on the side of the bed and a face wash! He will doze on and off during the day if not occupied.
"Junior always eats all of his food and would eat ours as well if we let him! Junior is very playful and has really come out of his shell. He will play on his own, tossing toys into the air or chasing his ball. He loves to tug with you and also paws at your hands for you to play wrestle with him, he will pretend to bite you but puts no pressure behind it - he just enjoys a play fight - typical Staffy! He will play for around half an hour, sometimes more.
"Junior loves people and greets everyone with a face wash and an exposed belly for rubs. He is very friendly and all of our visitors have fallen in love with him. He will bring toys to them to play and sit on their laps.
Junior is a fantastic, loving and friendly boy who is craving his best human friend. You will never be alone with Junior around, he will be a faithful companion who will repay you with complete adoration. He will cuddle you and nuzzle his face next to yours for reassurance. He is cheeky, playful and full of character! Since being in our family, he has not failed to make us laugh every day with his antics. From rolling over and falling off the sofa, to standing on his hind legs to try and reach the ducks flying overhead 🤣."
Walking:
Junior loves being out and about exploring everything on his walks! In foster he has walks of around 40 minutes, but there's no reason that he couldn't manage to sometimes walk for longer.
In kennels, due to stress, Junior could lead grab. His foster family has worked hard with him on this and he's now so much better and only occasionally tries to do this. Although usually, he forgets all about it once his walk starts. He needs a calm routine when putting his lead/harness on without getting over-aroused.
He can pull a bit at times, especially when he wants to investigate something, but this has improved greatly since his time in foster.
Junior is not dog reactive and is happy to meet other dogs when out and about.
Travelling:
Junior does get quite stressed when travelling. His foster family are working on this, but he will need further help with this once in his new home.
Vets:
Junior is very well behaved in the waiting room and will say hello nicely to other dogs in there.
He does find being examined etc. quite stressful, but still gives the vet plenty of kisses!
He may benefit from some 'fun' visits to his new vets to help him get used to them.
Health:
Junior is in good health. He may need some teeth removing and if not done before adoption, SSC can help towards the costs of this if needed.
He has not yet been neutered due to advice from our vet. However if once in his new home this changes, SSC would help with the costs of this if needed.
Ideal home:
Junior needs a home where someone is around the majority of the time and where he can slowly be helped to feel happy being left on his own.
He can live with children 12 years plus.
He is dog friendly on his walks, but we feel he would settle into his new home better as an only dog - he loves having all the attention and doesnt always want to share this!
He can't live with cats or small furries as he will chase them.
Standard information:
Junior is microchipped and will start his vaccinations shortly. He has not yet been neutered due to advice from our vet. However, if once in his new home this changes - SSC will help with the costs of this if needed.
He is currently in foster in Stoke, but he can be rehomed anywhere in the UK, pending a successful home visit. However, any adopter should be willing to travel to meet him at least twice where he is now.
There is a non refundable adoption donation of £120 for Junior and all money donated goes directly to helping all the Senior Staffies in our care.
