History:

Oreo arrived from the pound where he was due to be put to sleep after nobody came to claim him.

He isn’t the SSC's usual 'senior' dog as he is only 6 years old, but we knew we had to give him a helping paw out of the terrible situation he was in, due to no fault of his own, of course.

He is a Staffy cross, so slightly taller and leaner than your average staffy.

Current:

Oreo is currently at our Worcester kennels. When he arrived he was a very excitable, bouncy boy.

He is super friendly and playful. It very quickly became apparent that he has received very little training, so behaves like a puppy in an adult dog's body!

He is a beautiful boy and is desperate to be loved and played with. With training and guidance, he is coming on leaps and bounds every week.

Walking:

Oreo absolutely loves getting out and about, we think it is his most favourite thing.

He is super keen and is strong on the lead. He walks well and isn’t fazed by the traffic on the lanes around kennels.

He is improving daily with his walks and we have discovered that with walking him on a short lead, he is much better behaved as it prevents him lunging forward.

We have taken him to an enclosed field several times to allow him to burn his excess energy and he has been much calmer afterwards.

Travelling:

Oreo has had a couple of car journeys and he was OK, he whimpered a little initially but settled down.

He prefers to travel on the back seat attached to a seatbelt harness.

Vets:

We use a mobile vet, who visits the dogs at kennels, so we have not seen him in a vet practice. He was well behaved with the vet, just quite fidgety for his blood tests.

Health:

He has had a full health check including blood tests. When his blood test results came back - his white blood cells were slightly elevated, but the vet feels this was due to an infection as he arrived with a cough.

Ideal home:

We are looking for a very special kind of home for Oreo, he is a beautiful boy, but someone needs to have the time and experience to work with him. He will need time to decompress and then will need a fair amount of training, as boundaries were not set as a puppy. He will be an absolutely amazing dog once he has the bond and training with an owner.

An outdoor active home would be perfect for Oreo as he is a young, fit dog.

He will need to be the only pet in the home, we have not dog tested him, but he is such an excitable boy! So needs to have all the attention devoted to him.

A garden is a must for Oreo, he is such an energetic boy. He will need space to play and burn some excess energy throughout the day. All fencing will need to be solid 6ft+.

Due to his size and energy, children will need to be older. He would love to play ball with teenagers.

Due to being a stray, we are unsure whether he is house trained or if he has separation anxiety, so we feel someone who is initially home for most part of the day would best suit Oreo.

Standard information:

Oreo is microchipped, vaccinated and will be neutered.

He is currently in kennels in Worcestershire, but he can be rehomed anywhere in the UK, pending a successful home visit. However, any adopter should be willing to travel to meet him at least several times where he is now.

There is a non refundable adoption donation of £120 for Oreo and all money donated goes directly to helping all the Senior Staffies in our care.
