History:
Phoebe came to SSC after her owner became unwell. Now we know she is not a Staffy, but as we were in a position to help her owner, we felt it was the right thing to do. It says on her microchip that she is a Lab X Husky.
Current:
Phoebe was very scared when she first arrived at SSC but due to the patience, care and attention from our wonderful volunteers, she has now become a very friendly, fun-loving and affectionate girl. She loves having her bum and belly rubbed and gives out big kisses in return!
She has lots of energy and really enjoys playing with her toys, especially enjoying a game of fetch, along with treat searches. Phoebe loves her treats and can sit, give paw and wait on cue.
Phoebe is loved by all our volunteers and here's what some of them have to say about her:
"I love spending time with Phoebe! She is a pleasure to be with💕. We enjoy playing and then she enjoys a good bum scratch! She is just a friendly, lovable, loving princess who will make someone a great best friend 💕."
"Phoebe is bright, a quick learner, she would love to learn more and is a gentle soul underneath her initial boisterousness. We have no pavements on the roads around the kennels so when a car comes along she will move to the side of the road with you, sit down at your side, gently take a treat whilst waiting for the car to go past and only moves when told to do so. She loves to play fetch and I can just see her playing in a garden and having so much fun with her new family. She is very lovable and loving, a little goofy, very friendly, a true pal and she so deserves to find her new home soon!"
"Phoebe is fab! Always so happy to see you, greets you with a song and a skip in her step! She never fails to make you smile. Great out and about, as long as you can spot a roll that's about to unfold 😅. She enjoys to play, but equally loves a cuddle too. A total all rounder, what's not to love? ❤️"
"Phoebe is a real pleasure to spend time with. She's really friendly, energetic, intelligent, inquisitive and loving. She loves a walk, responds to commands and isn't reactive to other animals we meet. She loves to play with toys and interact with you and especially likes a fuss with a treat or two! All she lacks is a sofa to call her own and some humans to love her as much as she'll love them."
"Phoebe is a very intelligent girl who loves stimulating her brain with puzzle toys, but equally loves a snooze on the sofa having cuddles. She listens well to commands and deserves to have her own family to love and she will repay them with endless loyalty and fun filled days ❤️."
Walking:
Phoebe really enjoys going for walks and still has a good amount of energy.
She did pull quite a lot on the lead when she first arrived, but this has improved during her time with us. She would still need an owner capable of handling her on a walk as she can be strong on the lead at times and can pull towards things she wants to investigate. She is usually not reactive to other dogs, but can snap if they get in her face.
Phoebe is not a mooch around the block type of girl and would be happy with a couple of 30- 45 minute walks a day, with the odd longer adventure too - she was getting tired with regular longer walks so she does need time to rest inbetween walks.
Travelling:
Phoebe is not great at travelling. She becomes very vocal and can escape crates and can end up wearing car guards around her head! She can also try to chew anything that she feels is in her way.
She seems to want to get to the front of the car/van, but still finds it hard to settle even if she is at the front and will continue to bark!
She will need help from a new owner to get used to travelling safely and without becoming stressed.
Vets:
Phoebe is always happy to get cuddles from our vets, but isn’t a fan of things being done to her. She is very bouncy and wriggly to try and avoid being examined and so needed sedating for a blood draw.
She is very bouncy in the waiting room, but does mainly ignore other dogs.
Phoebe would benefit from ‘fun’ trips to the vets to help her become more comfortable for future visits.
Health:
Phoebe is in good health and all her blood tests came back completely normal.
She has recently been in season, so will need to be spayed in around 2-3 months’ time and SSC will cover the cost of this.
She also has a very small mammary lump that our vets have advised would be best to be removed when spayed – again, SSC will cover the costs of this.
Ideal home:
Phoebe needs a pet free home. She is not usually reactive to dogs on a walk, but can snap when they come too close.
Phoebe can live with children 12+ due to her bouncy and excitable nature.
She needs a secure garden with fences of at least 4 feet.
Phoebe can be left for up to 4 hours once settled into her new home.
Standard information:
Phoebe is microchipped and has started her vaccinations.
She is currently in kennels in Stoke, but she can be rehomed anywhere in the UK, pending a successful home visit. However, any adopter should be willing to travel to meet her at least twice where she is now.
There is a non refundable adoption donation of £120 for Phoebe and all money donated goes directly to helping all the Senior Staffies in our care.
We aim to acknowledge your application within 48 hours.
