History:
Ronnie came to SSC after being found as a stray.
Current:
Ronnie is a very friendly boy who greets everyone with a lovely, happy, helicopter tail.
His favourite thing is snuggling up on the sofa with all of our volunteers for cuddles and a nap. He’s a very loving boy who typically dishes out plenty of Staffy snogs!
He’s not overly interested in toys at the moment, but he does sometimes like to have a few treat searches or a lickimat before it's sofa time.
Walking:
Ronnie has had a front leg amputated, but still gets around pretty well. He feels more comfortable moving around quite quickly so does move at some speed!
He can sometimes stumble and lose balance, so he’s only going for very short walks whilst he builds up his condition.
We have fundraised to get him his own set of wheels, which will help to support him and take the strain off his remaining legs – he will need to slowly get used to using these.
Travelling:
Ronnie has travelled with us on the backseat of a car a few times now and he’s improved every time. He now will have a quiet whine and settles down quite quickly without moving around.
Vets:
Ronnie has been to our vets a few times now and has always been very well behaved. He’s no trouble for examinations or blood tests etc.
Health:
Ronnie’s routine blood tests all came back completely normal.
He had very rotten teeth when he arrived in our care and has since had a dental where the majority of his teeth had to be removed. He’s recovered well from the op and still loves his food, though we do soak his dry food to make it easier for him to eat.
Ronnie has also had X-Rays of his 3 legs. He does have some arthritic changes in his front leg, which is to be expected. His back legs are still in good health, though they have lost some condition due to weight loss and there is a small amount of spondylosis in his spine close to his hips.
He has started an anti-inflammatory for his arthritis.
Ronnie is not yet neutered following medical advice from our vets.
Ideal home:
Ronnie could possibly live with another dog as he does not show any negative reactions, though he has not yet been fully dog tested. It would need to be a very calm dog that didn’t play rough, etc., due to his arthritis and sometimes being unsteady.
He needs a home without many slippery floors or where someone is willing to put runners on the floor for him so that he finds it easier to get around the home. Also, a home without lots of steps would be beneficial as he shouldn’t really be going up and down stairs regularly.
A secure, mainly level garden would be ideal – having somewhere to potter around will help him build condition.
As we have no background on Ronnie, we don’t know how he is being left alone. So, along with how much he loves spending time with people, we’d ideally like a home where he isn’t left for long periods.
Standard information:
Ronnie is microchipped and will be starting his vaccinations shortly.
He is currently in kennels in Stoke, but he can be rehomed anywhere in the UK, pending a successful home visit. However, any adopter should be willing to travel to meet him at least twice where he is now.
There is a non refundable adoption donation of £120 for Ronnie and all money donated goes directly to helping all the Senior Staffies in our care.
