Hello everyone, can I introduce the cheeky loveable Bernie to you. He came into us at The Senior Staffy Club from another rescue. He was originally rescued as a stray from the Croydon area, so very little info is known about this cheeky chappy. What we do know is he loves people and wants to be fussed continually.
He walks well on the lead; he doesn’t pull, and appears to behave well in other dogs company. We are told from the other rescue is dog friendly (we have not tested him ourselves), but does get over stimulated. Bernie was placed in a foster home prior to arriving with us, and lived with 2 spayed bitches, but was very excitable, so was returned.
His next foster parents before arriving with us were pet free, and worked from home. They found he wanted attention all the time, this made making phone calls very difficult, as he whines and barks until he gets it. We don’t think Bernie is used to travelling, nor does he enjoy it, he sings the whole time…doesn’t matter how long the journey is.
He is a very good boy at the vets, and everyone loves him.

Now to the important part, we are looking for a specific home for this little cutie. The home needs to be calm and quiet, where at least one person is retired/home pretty much all the time, as we really don’t think Bernie will cope with being left on his own. Due to not knowing Bernie’s past, we feel he would be happier living with older children aged 12 years plus, and possibly being the only pet, however he may be able to live with a calm patient dog in time. This would require a minimum of two meets with your dog.
He has had quite an unsettled life, so we are looking for someone who is happy to work with him to feel safe and happy in his later years, this may take a little time and training for his barking to subside. Support can be given by our behaviourist. Bernie isn’t quite ready for his forever home, as he is currently being treated for dry eye and a respiratory infection. He isn’t neutered yet, but SSC are happy to pay for this to be done once he is settled in his forever home.
Bernie is vaccinated and microchipped. He is in foster in Worcester, but can be rehomed anywhere in the UK, pending a successful home visit. However, any adopter should be willing to travel to meet him where he is now.
There is an adoption donation of £90 for Bernie and all money donated goes directly to helping all the Senior Staffies in our care.
