History:
Achilles came to us after a change in his owner’s circumstances.

Current:
Achilles is a very friendly, affectionate boy who loves spending time in human company. He gives lots of Staffy kisses and is particularly good at giving ear washes!

He likes playing with toys, both playing tug and also, in true Staffy style, having a good chew!

Achilles is a clever boy who can do several tricks on cue including sit, beg, down, stay and spin.

Here's what his aunties and uncles say about him:

"Everyone is looking for that great dog that is loving, clever, well behaved, travels well, walks perfectly on lead, loves all people and adores a snuggle on the sofa - well look no further, Achilles is your man! Having walked him and spent time with him I can say that in over 10 years of walking the Seniors, Achilles is one of the best behaved I have had the pleasure of knowing. He doesn't like other dogs in his face so he wears a muzzle - so what! Don't let that make you overlook a wonderful dog that will be your best buddy, make you smile and love you!"

"I love spending time with Achillies, he actually makes you laugh out loud! He is such a loving, playful, affectionate dog who gives great staffy snogs 😂. He walks great and listens really well to commands, he even does tricks for treats! Someone will be really lucky to have Achillies in their life 😊."

"Achilles is a very special dog. He loves the company of people and is incredibly affectionate. He walks nicely on the lead at a good pace and will happily curl up next to you/on you for a cuddle once walkies are over and it’s time for a snooze."

"Achilles is everything a Staffy should be…affectionate, playful, intelligent and a bit goofy 😝. He is a pleasure to walk and spend time with."

"I adore this boy, he's always so happy to see you and just wants to shower you in kisses 💋. A more enthusiastic fella with a true lust for life you won't find! He's intelligent, loving, amusing and sooo handsome too! He walks beautifully out and about, is muzzle trained and to me - is just the perfect package ❤️🐾❤️."

"The most adorable big lad. Such a clever boy, knows all his commands. Someone has trained him well. Walks excellent on the lead. Loves to perform his tricks, for treats of course! Can sit, down, lie, paw, spin and has an excellent recall. Loves learning new puzzles and has a very active brain. Equally, when that is all done, he loves a good snuggle on your lap 😊."

Walking:
Achilles walks well on the lead without pulling.

He has a legal order in place which means he needs to wear a muzzle (he is muzzle trained) and a 'no dogs' vest in public, as well as being kept on a fixed length lead whilst in public at all times. The order was put into place after Achilles got himself into altercations with other dogs – we will happily discuss this with anyone interested in adopting Achilles.

This order needs to be followed at all times by whoever adopts him. Achilles is used to being walked with a muzzle etc. and the conditions of the order actually keep him safe by not allowing him to get himself into any trouble.

He will need to be given space from other dogs and not walked in dog-busy areas.

However, he is not actually reactive to other dogs on sight - we find him very easy and manageable to walk past them.

Travelling:
We’ve taken Achilles on short trips in the car and he travels really well. He jumps onto the backseat without any hesitation and settles down well for the journey.

He spends most of his time lying down or looking out of the window.

He had a much longer trip to us, even travelling by train for part of his journey and he coped really well with this.

Vets:
Achilles has been to our vets for a routine examination and blood tests.

He behaved really well for these and our vet said she’d take him home herself if she didn’t have a dog! He did find the waiting room a little stressful and had a good sing song, but was otherwise very manageable.

Health:
Achilles has been given a clean bill of health.

Ideal home:
Achilles needs a home without any other pets.
We’re looking for an experienced owner who will keep to the conditions of Achilles’ order and keep him safe around other dogs.
He can get very giddy and bouncy, so any children in the home would need to be 14 years plus.
We do know he’s suffered with separation anxiety in the past so we’d like a home where someone is around for the majority of the time and someone willing to work with him to help him feel comfortable when he is left alone.
Achilles needs a private and secure garden so he has somewhere that he can relax and roll around off lead and muzzle free.

Standard information:
Achilles is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

He is currently in kennels in Stoke-On-Trent, but he can be rehomed anywhere in the UK, pending a successful home visit. However, any adopter should be willing to travel to meet him at least twice where he is now.

There is a non-refundable adoption donation of £120 for Achilles and all money donated goes directly to helping all the Senior Staffies in our care.
