History:
Rocky came into the Senior Staffy Club after his owner sadly passed away. He initially went to live with a family member, but they had young playful dogs that were too much for him.
Current:
Rocky is a very sweet and friendly boy, he loves to be fussed and stroked, and found coming into kennels very overwhelming. This resulted in a bite which we will happily discuss in more detail with you.
To help Rocky settle, we placed him into a foster home where he has been a little angel.
His foster mum tells us:
"Rocky has been a dream. He hasn’t shown any signs of snapping whatsoever, at any time. He has had a shower and seemed to enjoy it. He also eats his food well.
"He loves his walks and goes at a good pace. He enjoys cuddles and he’s is quite licky. He follows me around everywhere, but he is quite happy to be left for up to 4 hours.
When left, he happily settles in his bed and goes to sleep.
"He doesn’t show any signs of aggression with other dogs, he is simply curious. He does react if he sees a cat or squirrel though.
"He sleeps in his own bed overnight, next to my bed."
Walking:
Rocky loved his walks when at kennels, this is when he settled best.
He loved sniffing in the hedgerows along the lanes. He didn’t show any interest in the sheep when walking through the fields.
He didn’t show any reaction to passing traffic down the lanes either.
Travelling:
Rocky loves travelling on the back seat of the car.
Vets:
The vet came to kennels to see the dogs. Rocky wasn't a fan and had to be muzzled for the vet to complete his health check, blood tests and vaccinations.
Health:
He has had a full health check, including a blood test. The vet was very happy with his results and confirmed they were very good for his age.
We noticed as the temperature dropped and with daily walks, he showed a bit of stiffness. The vet examined him and thought he may benefit from taking Gabapentin and Loxicom. Since Rocky has been taking these, he hasn’t shown any discomfort and seems much happier in himself.
Rocky has been neutered whilst in our care, which he has fully recovered from.
Ideal home:
• Rocky has lived with other dogs in the past, so could possibly live with an older/calmer dog after multiple visits.
• Due to the incident at kennels, we feel Rocky would be better not living with children.
• Rocky is looking for a quiet retirement home, where he can snuggle on the sofa and potter in the garden. He loves his daily walk and doesn’t pull.
• Rocky is house trained and doesn’t really bark. He is happy to be left for a few hours.
Standard information:
Rocky is microchipped, vaccinated and neutered.
He is currently in foster in Staffordshire, but he can be rehomed anywhere in the UK, pending a successful home visit. However, any adopter should be willing to travel to meet him at least twice where he is now.
There is a non refundable adoption donation of £120 for Rocky and all money donated goes directly to helping all the Senior Staffies in our care.
We aim to acknowledge your application within 48 hours.
